I think when I retire from being a writer, I'm going to be a professional baseball player.:)Joshua David Bellin, Sci-Fi Authorhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18259500581833010699noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7972634520365108601.post-30467948828841484532015-03-13T13:09:46.718-04:002015-03-13T13:09:46.718-04:00I live near Seattle so that article really made th...I live near Seattle so that article really made the rounds, and a lot of his former students spoke out. But I thought it was honest. Harsh, but honest. Especially the line about anyone who tells you they have the publishing industry figured out is a liar.

There are SO many people/websites/agencies out there trying to make money off of aspiring writers that it is definitely buyer beware.

Your point, Josh, goes along the same lines of how annoying it is to hear somebody say "When I retire from being a doctor, I'd like to write a book." For some reason, that's socially acceptable. Although everyone would realize that it's ridiculous to say the opposite. The thing that most annoys me is the new trend for "trying to achieve notoriety by ticking off as many people as possible." It's already the norm in politics, apparently, and now it has moved into the world of publishing.

As for talent, yes I agree. To be successful, a writer has to have talent. But it may not be talent for writing. It might be a talent for realizing what people want to read and capitalizing on it -- thus explaining the success of 50 Shades of Gray. Could it be that Boudinot's real talent lies in being condescending, insensitive, and sexist and not his writing at all? ;)Dianne K. Salernihttp://diannesalerni.com/blog/noreply@blogger.com
